Celtic: In this context, "Celtic" refers to pottery made by an ethnolinguistic group of tribal societies in Iron Age Europe (about 800 BC to the Roman invasion of 43 AD;there is overlap, depending on geographical location) who spoke Celtic languages, and covers territories in modern-day North-West Europe.

The Iron Age covers the period from about 800 BC to the Roman invasion of 43 AD, and follows on from the Bronze Age(about 3700 BC to about 500 BC). There is overlap, depending on geographical location. Many Roman wares and Roman influenced pieces are found today in Britain,France (Gauloise/La Tène) and other parts of Northern Europe.

Viking-Saxon Costrels

Based on this photo from Regia Anglorum

Anglo-Saxon, Viking, Norman and British Living History

A COSTREL is a flat usually earthenware container for liquids with loops through which a belt or cord may be passed for easy carrying —called also pilgrim bottle. A CANTEEN is a drinking water bottle designed to be used by hikers, campers, soldiers and workers in the field. It is usually fitted with a shoulder strap or means for fastening it to a belt, and may be covered with a cloth bag and padding to protect the bottle and insulate the contents. If the padding is soaked with water, evaporative cooling can help keep the contents of the bottle cool.

All are fully functional and watertight; canteensand costrels are lined with beeswax.
